Scientific Credentials
Dr. Iyengar is a molecular geneticist with extensive experience in laboratory-based research in cell and molecular biology in humans and experimental animals. She has been successful in various aspects of data collection from patient recruitment to molecular analysis for a number of complex diseases. She has over 20 publications and has been extremely successful in attaining research grant support from the NIH and other granting bodies in the United States. Dr. Iyengar leads several large-scale gene discovery projects and is involved in three U.S. consortiums to map genes for complex diseases including diabetic nephropathy, sarcoidosis and fibromyalgia.

Dr. Iyengar undertook graduate training in the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh, under Professor Robert E. Ferrell, receiving her PhD in 1992. From 1992-1996 she undertook postdoctoral training under Professor Kenneth K. Kidd in the Department of Genetics at Yale University, where she worked on the genetics of several cancer syndromes. From 1997, she became an instructor then assistant professor in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Case Western Reserve University. Since 1997, she has also been the Director of the Genotyping Laboratory in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Iyengar's laboratory is currently involved in several large- and small-scale genotyping projects on humans and rodents. The whole genome scans for human disease genes currently underway include diseases such as age-related maculopathy, sarcoidosis and end-stage renal disease. Her laboratory is also conducting research on candidate genes for speech disorders, alopecia areata and hypertension. She was a graduate scholarship holder of the University of Pittsburgh, and in 1998 was awarded the David Jacobs Award by the American Heart Association.

Position in Triaj
Dr. Iyengar, co-founder, is the Vice President of Molecular Genetics at Triaj. During the initial phases of Triaj's development she will provide consulting services in the area of molecular genetics and genomics. She will be responsible for the recruitment and eventual oversight of consultants whose research interests are predominantly in the area of molecular genetics, genomics, proteomics.
